Miami Immigration Lawyer Steven A. Goldstein provides the following immigration tips:

1.      What if I am notified by ICE to report to either Krome Service Processing Center or to Deferred Inspection Office located at the Miami International Airport?

Many times, these appointments are scheduled to discuss your immigration status due to prior criminal convictions.      Depending on the nature and date of the convictions, you may be subject to detention by the immigration authorities without    the possibility of immigration bond.  It is important to retain a competent and experienced immigration attorney to accompany you to this or any other appointments with ICE.

2.      What if I am notified by the Immigration Court (Executive Office for Immigration Review) to appear at a Master Calendar Hearing?

A Master Calendar Hearing is generally a preliminary hearing where an Immigration Judge advises you that the Immigration authorities have charged you with violations of the United States immigration laws.  At this hearing you can be represented by the attorney of your choice. It is advisable to

3.      If you are approached by an ICE officer, NEVER raise your voice or become confrontational with the officer.  DO NOT lie to the officer or provide false information.

4.      DO NOT file applications with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for the sole purpose of seeking an official receipt to obtain a driver's license.  This short-term strategy could result in your removal or deportation from the United States if you are not eligible for the relief sought.

5.      When you are ready to file applications with the USCIS, DO NOT use a notary public who dispenses legal advice regarding your immigration case.  This is known as the unlicensed practice of law and it is illegal for a non-lawyer to give you legal advice.  You should seek the advice of a competent, experienced immigration attorney before filing any documents with USCIS.
