Attorney Steve Goldstein lectured at a seminar on immigration law in Philadelphia presented by Law Review CLE. The course was presented as part of the required continuing legal education credits that attorneys need to remain in good standing with their respective State bar associations. Mr. Goldstein covered grounds of inadmissibility, removal proceedings , bond re-determination motions, and ethics in Immigration Court. About 35 attorneys attended the seminar including a few immigration attorneys who were just starting out practicing immigration law. Criminal defense attorneys also attended to get up to speed on Padilla v. Kentucky, which is a United States Supreme Court case that stands for the requirement that criminal defense attorneys provide proper advice on whether a plea in criminal court will subject their client to mandatory deportation. Many criminal convictions are now being overturned based on this important precedent case.
