Reauthorization of VAWA

The House has passed the Senate’s version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

This version of VAWA enhances federal programs to assist local communities with law enforcement and to aid victims of domestic and sexual abuse. In terms of immigration, the law contains improvements in the U and T visa categories. U visas are for victims of violent crimes and T visas are for victims of human trafficking.

The bill is expected to be signed by President Obama.
